The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit has come to be your guide and helper.
He brings freedom, love, peace, joy and the transforming power to make you a "new creation" as you begin to follow Jesus.
Here's an introduction to how He helps and stands with you - but you'll learn much more about Him as you continue your journey.
1. He brings His power to help
you Overcome Sin and Live in
Freedom from your Past sinful life!
... THIS A KEY AREA WHERE THE HOLY SPIRIT BRINGS HIS POWER TO BEAR! Turning from your past sinful way of life requires you to make the choice to do so AND to exercise your willpower and self-discipline BUT Jesus knows how weak human nature is when it comes to these things so the HOLY SPIRIT brings His Power to SUPPORT and ASSIST you! This is great news! You’re not left on your own to try to overcome these things by yourself, He is right there to help! Call on His help when you need it! Every time. No matter how often. When you need His help, call on Him! He does not run out of patience and He does not come to condemn you when you fail! If you are genuinely doing your best to follow Jesus, the Holy Spirit is right there to help and support you. If you have particular difficulties in this area, then also call upon your church leadership for additional advice and support. They, too, are there to help! Also, be sure to read and memorise the verses below: ... through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. (Romans chapter 8 verse 2) For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. (Romans chapter 8 verse 13) Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. (2 Corinthians chapter 3 verse 17) So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. (Galatians chapter 5 verse 16) For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. (2 Timothy chapter 1 verse 7)
2. He helps you Understand and Grow in
your Relationship with Jesus.
... You’ve just set out on your new relationship with Jesus. And like any new relationship there’s a lot to learn about that other person. The Holy Spirit has come to help you learn what is pleasing to Jesus and what is not. He teaches you about Jesus and His ways. And, when you face temptation or have to make choices, He reminds you of what Jesus has said. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. (John chapter 14 verse 46)
3. He Guides you into God’s Truth.
... The Holy Spirit is with you to help you understand what the Bible says. And, when anyone tries to mislead you or confuse you about God or Jesus, or what the Bible has to say on any matter, the Holy Spirit is there to guide you and help you recognise the truth. If you’re feeling confused ask for His help. He will use the Bible, the words of Jesus and that inner “voice” by which He speaks to you. Remember, you won’t hear Him speaking aloud in your ears: He communicates inwardly, with your spirit. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. (John chapter 16 verse 13)
4. The Holy Spirit brings Life, Peace, Joy
and He empowers you to Live
Righteously before God.
... In your past life you had different priorities. You lived life to please yourself, you lived whatever way you wanted. Now that you’ve decided to follow Jesus, your priorities are different. Now your priorities are to live to please Him and do what is right in the eyes of God – the Bible calls this righteousness. The Holy Spirit comes alongside to enable you to take up these new priorities and live by them. He also brings you peace, joy and life as you do so! For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. (Romans chapter 14 verse 17) The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. (Romans chapter 8 verse 6)
5. His presence changes you to Reflect
the Character of Jesus.
... As is often said, we all have our faults and failings. Sometimes these are very obvious, very unpleasant, and known to everyone. But sometimes they are equally, or even more unpleasant, but known only to ourselves and God. But regardless of who knows about the flaws in your character, the Holy Spirit is at work to reproduce His character, and the beauty of Jesus in your life. This is something that will be seen by everyone – and as they see the life of Jesus in you, this points them to Him. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control... (Galatians chapter 5 verses 22-23) You yourselves are our letter... known and read by everyone. You show that you are a letter from Christ... written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. (2 Corinthians chapter 3 verses 2-3)
6. The Holy Spirit is here to Stay:
to Support, Encourage and Help you.
... Yes, that’s right. He hasn’t just come for a fleeting visit. The Holy Spirit is your new permanent Helper. In the verses below Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit as an “advocate.” Collins dictionary says this is someone who will “speak for, support, or represent a person or group of people who may need extra help or protection” The Holy Spirit has come to Support you, Encourage you and Help You Grow in your relationship with Jesus – and to help you attain the “life to the full” that Jesus wants you to have. You don’t know Him well, yet. But as you learn to recognise His “voice” in your spirit – and respond to His leading and guidance – you’ll get to know Him better and discover the many, many benefits He will bring to your life. So, make sure you ask Him to: help you when you come to pray, help you when you come to read your Bible, help you in your daily life - to choose what is right and good, and - to turn away from what is wrong and displeasing to God. If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever — the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. (John chapter 14 verses 15-17)
